The 2007 Solar Decathlon is full heat right now challenging 20 college and university teams from around the world to design, build, and operate a fully solar-powered house that will be able to satisfy the needs of a typical family. Using the latest commercially available technologies and products, the students will push the boundaries of residential solar viability in the context of a collaborative design process. On the National Mall in Washington, DC the teams have formed a solar village which is open for public perusal between October 12-20, 2007. Each team will be judged in the following ten categories: * Architecture * Engineering * Market Viability * Communications * Comfort Zone * Appliances * Hot Water * Lighting * Energy Balance and * Transportation The houses will be judged according to how well they perform mundane tasks as hot showers, cooking meals, general lighting, clothes washing and drying, even trips to the grocery store in electric powered vehicles. Current scores and standings and the events going on in the solar village are updated every fifteen minutes on the Department of Energy's official Solar Decathlon website at www.solardecathlon.org I'd like to express my sincere appreciation to Rick Kennerly for taking the time to compile this video recap of his visit and for his kind permission to share it with us here on YouTube. I hope you enjoy the second hand look at the event and best of luck to all those involved!
